"Can't Stop Scrolling"

Sustained Investigation Topic: INSOMNIA

Why can’t I sleep? What is keeping me awake? What are the different stages and causes of insomnia? What are the effects? What is making me so exhausted? Why do I have bizarre dreams? 

Insomnia is a common condition, I have attempted to understand further what it is and why it happens. I wanted to illustrate my experiences and the cycle that most nights tend to follow: First the toxicity of social media, the hallucinations and horrid dreams when one can fall asleep, and finally pure exhaustion. A lot happens during those late hours of the night and makes the time before sleeping tiring. Most view it as staying up late on electronics aimlessly, but what happens when Instagram has nothing new to show? The start of my sustained consists of a print from junior year, which displays my growth, later stemming into a majority of digital works, media I have never completely explored before now. Through methods of digital and two-dimensional design, I try to convey the loneliness and gloom that insomnia entails through dark backgrounds, a constant hue of purple, blue, black, and gray, dramatic light sources, as well as unusual and eerie imagery.
